History five paragraph essay
The Byzantine empire was an extension of the Roman empire and lasted from around 330 to around 1453 AD. The locations in the byzantine empire affected people's lives from where they travel to how they live. Islam began in the early seventh century when the prophet Muhammad had revelations from god and began to write them down in the Qur’an.
Mecca is a sacred place to Muslims. The only people that are allowed to come into mecca are muslims (britannica mecca). The Islamic prophet Muhammad was born in mecca in 570 A.D (Religious facts). The Ka’ba is a shrine in Mecca built around a black stone that the prophet Muhammad kissed (Hajj explained). All devout Muslims must make the pilgrimage to mecca in their lifetime. The pilgrimage to the Ka’ba in Mecca is a very religious and sacred trip for Muslims, it is the fifth and final pillar of Islam (Hajj explained). The pilgrims begin the hajj (pilgrimage) by circling the Ka’ba in Mecca seven times, they then go to Mina to pray and read the Quran. The pilgrims then go to Mount Arafat where they pray from noon to dusk where the prophet muhammed preached his last sermon, Pilgrims then go to Muzdalifah to pick up 49 rocks needed for Mina. The rocks are then thrown at the three pillars to represent the devil and to start the three day festival of Eid-al-Adha. Finally the pilgrims return to Mecca and circle the Ka’ba seven more times (Hajj explained).
The devind of the Shias and the Sunnis is the bestest split in Islam history. The two split because after Muhammad's death people could not agree on who should be his predecessor. The Shia believed that Muhammad's friend Abu Bakr should be the next prophet, while Sunnis believed that Muhammad’s Son-in-law should be the next Caliph (prophet). Medina is a sacred city called “city of the prophet” (Britannica medina). It is located in the Hejar region of western Saudi Arabia. It is said that after Muhammad was chased out of Mecca he fled to Yathrib later renamed by Muhammad to Medina.
Constantinople is the center hub of religion and culture in the Byzantine empire. The city was built at the site of the ancient city of Byzantium in the early fourth century (Ancient history constantinople). After reuniting Rome Constantine decided to put his new capital at the old site of Byzantium after contemplating many other cities, Old Rome was never considered for the new capital (ancient history). Schism of 1054 was the final separation of the east and west churches of christianity. The west believed that the pope had complete control over everything, while the east believed the pope had control over the church but the patriarch had control over everything else (Britannica Schism of 1054). The church split created Roman catholics and eastern orthodox catholics.
Locations of an empire can affect how people pray, live, and act. Throughout Islamic culture important places and monument affected how people went about their life from making a pilgrimage to Mecca in their lifetime to them praying five times a day. When the capital of byzantine was moved to Constantinople people flocked to the city from all over.
